The  Connecticut State Department of Education is currently recruiting for a  
Reading/Writing Assessment consultant for the Bureau of Student Assessment.  
Job class will be based on the credentials  of the candidate. 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 
Assists in the development, administration, scoring, and  reporting of 
Connecticut’s statewide assessments of reading  and writing. 
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: 
    *   Coordinates the development of reading and writing  tests including 
item development, item review, test form preparation, test  administration and 
scoring; 
    *   Acts as liaison with Connecticut State Department of  Education 
curriculum consultants and the testing contractor related to reading  and writing 
tests; 
    *   Prepares for and facilitates advisory committee  meetings; 
    *   Coordinates the development of and reviews of scoring  materials for 
open-ended and extended response  items; 
    *   Monitors the scoring of tests, on contractor’s site  (out of state); 
    *   Provides necessary presentations, workshops, and  training related to 
the Connecticut Mastery  Test; 
    *   Provides technical assistance to the personnel of other  State 
Department of Education programs on use of the Connecticut Mastery  Test; 
    *   Performs other duties and special assignments as  requested by the 
Bureau Chief.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
Knowledge, Skill and  Ability: 
Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education;  comprehensive 
knowledge of reading and writing education; knowledge/experience  in educational 
assessment; knowledge of Connecticut public school practices;  written and oral 
communication skills; knowledge of statistical methods and  computer 
applications; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working  relationships. 
Minimum Experience and Training  Required: 
Education Consultant:  An earned advanced degree and eight (8) years of 
relevant professional  experience or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of 
experience  and training as approved by the appointing  authority. 
Associate Education  Consultant:  An earned advanced degree and five (5)  
years of relevant professional experience or in lieu thereof, an  equivalent 
combination of experience and training as approved by the appointing  authority. 
Preferred Experience and  Training 
Candidates with public school teaching experience in  English/Language Arts 
Education and in-depth content knowledge, and experience  with student 
assessment and statistical  methods.
